Seniors Eye Care in Ottawa

Dr. Tripp and Dr. Guerrette welcome seniors to their practice. After age 60, your eye examination has an emphasis on eye health as chances are your spectacle prescription has stabilized.

We are able to manage or monitor all of your eye health concerns: cataract (pre and post operation), macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, double vision, eye comfort, dry eye and lid diseases.

We have an extensive network of specialized ophthalmologists for general cataract surgery, neurology concerns, oculoplastics (lumps and bumps and eyelids), retinology and surgical glaucoma management. We will ensure that you see the right subspecialist in a timely manner and will correspond with your family physician regarding your eye conditions.

Beyond age 65, your eye examination is largely covered by OHIP. There will be additional minor consultation fees for services and procedures not covered by OHIP. These may include the following:

  • Completion of reports
  • Drivers test assessments
  • Retinal or external photography*
  • Pachymetry*
  • Topography
  • Extended counselling (laser eye surgery, golf glasses, computer glasses, etc)

*These procedures (one or both) are recommended procedures at your initial exam. Retina and external photography aids in the detection and monitoring of numerous age related eye diseases. Pachymetry aids in the conclusive diagnosis of glaucoma. Neither service is covered by OHIP. You will be advised in advance of the necessary procedures and fees

For seniors, dilating eye drops are likely to be used at most assessments – so bring some sunglasses (we provide them if you forget). As your eye health is linked to your systematic health, medication lists are useful.
