Dr. R. James Tripp is a 1981 graduate of the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry, where he was valedictorian and co-recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Award for Excellence in Contact Lenses. He received his ocular therapeutics certification in 2011 and is licensed to treat glaucoma, ocular infection, allergy or inflammation with topical and oral medication.
Dr. Tripp has developed a reputation and skill set to manage complex contact lens cases, specifically for keratoconus and post corneal graft and accepts referrals from ophthalmologists and other optometrists to manage these cases. Dr. Tripp attends over 40 hours of continuing education courses annually and prides himself on educating his patients as to the true nature of their eye disorders.
He is a graduate of Sir Robert Borden High School (Class of 1976) where again he was class valedictorian and co-president of his school council in his final year. Dr. Tripp has practised in Ottawa since 1983, after two years in Smiths Falls.
He is a past president and treasurer of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists, a member of the Ontario and Canadian Associations of Optometrists and a past low vision consultant to the Montreal Association of the Blind. He is a frequent speaker to industry, professional and consumer organizations on diverse topics in eye care.
Dr. Nadine Guerrette graduated from McGill University in 2006 with a degree in Physiology. She then returned to her hometown and completed a Master of Science at the University of Ottawa, where she received the Dean’s Award of Excellence and Médéric Montpetit Award for her research on the role of vision in hand movements. In 2013, she completed her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo, graduating on the Dean’s Honours List.
Dr. Guerrette has completed an ocular disease internship with OMNI Eye Specialists in Baltimore, Maryland. Here she gained considerable experience in the diagnosis and management of retinal disease, glaucoma, and cataracts. During her training she also completed an internship at a laser eye clinic in Toronto and did rotations through the various speciality clinics at the University of Waterloo, including pediatrics, low vision and binocular vision.
In the past she has participated on humanitarian mission trips with VOSH and I Care International. She travelled with these charities to Romania and Honduras to provide eye examinations and distribute glasses to underprivileged communities. She thoroughly enjoyed these experiences and looks forward to participating on similar trips in the future.
